Lots of information on team formations.
Hi Everyone,
This video is jammed packed with information on team formations and there advantages and disadvantages against other formations. What I would like you to notice from the video is:
This video is jammed packed with information on team formations and there advantages and disadvantages against other formations. What I would like you to notice from the video is:
- Every player is involved in defending.
- The side of the pitch that the ball is on is crowded with players.
- The opposite side to the ball is left free.
- The defence always has an extra player than the attacking team.
- The defenders stay close together to deny the opponents time and space to pass.
It doesn't matter what formation we decide to use these principles apply in every case.

Train like you Compete!
"There is nothing more important to achieving your athletic goals than what you do in practice. It is during training that you ingrain the physical, technical, tactical, and mental habits that will come out in competitions. If you establish good habits, you’ll have a good chance of having a good performance. But if you instill bad habits, those will come out and you’ll have little chance of performing your best".

In the Zone Drill
In the Zone Drill
- This drill will help us to create more shooting chances and score more goals.
- It will also allow the goal keepers to practise one v one situations in real time, something they rarely get chance to do.
- Midfielders will benefit from creative passing and perfecting the weight of the pass into the space for the striker to run onto.
- Strikers will get more practise in one v one situations.
Watch the video. See you tonight.

Defending - Individual pressure
Individual Pressure
When the other team has the ball we are all defenders. Defending is all about denying the other team time and space to create goal scoring chances. The film below shows how an individual quickly closes down the opponent receiving the ball to prevent him turning. If you can't win the ball your job is to slow him down so that your team can get back into position and mark up.
Key points to look for:

Key points to look for:
- Get close to your opponent whilst the ball is travelling.
- Run very quickly at first and then slow down and be in control when you get nearer.
- Stand in a low position slightly turned to the side.
- Block off your opponents stronger foot.
- Be patient, if you cant get the ball make sure you slow him down.
- Try to make your opponent pass backwards or sideways.

Training for 2nd November 2012
Hi Lads
Tough game coming up this sunday. SO, we have to be at our best and prepared. We will do the same drills that we did on the 19th of October.
Just a little note about the drills. I do not expect you to be able to do the drills perfectly when you come to training. I put them on the blog so that you know what we are going to be practicing. Training is a chance to improve on your game. So don't worry if you look at the drills and think "I cant do that !". The idea is that you will do them better in the coming months not tonight. I have always said, "try to be a little better each week".
If you don't understand anything ask me at training or give me a call on 07929723440 and i'll take you through it. Jordan came to me the other week at training and asked me to explain his positioning a little better. I had 5 or 10 minutes with him off to the side and that was great for me. Showed that he wanted to get better and he was prepared to admit he wasn't quite sure. Well done Jord.
That said watch the drills and remember this: Good footballers play where the ball is, GREAT FOOTBALLERS PLAY WHERE THE BALL IS GOING TO BE!
Here's the link to the drills on the 19th. See you later.
